How to Word a Save The Date; What to Include.

What should you include on a Save The Date Card? And are Save The Dates absolutely necessary?

You’re probably fed up of hearing it, but the cliché is true – it’s YOUR wedding, so do what YOU want. If you don’t want to send Save The Date cards to your nearest and dearest, don’t, if you want to include a poem instead of the usual formalities, do it!

Of course, there are pros and cons to sending Save The Date stationery to your loved ones, and there is some information you need to include. I’ll continue…

The Pros of Save The Dates

  • It gives your family and friends advance notice to keep that special day free
  • Giving your family/friends time is valuable when they need to consider work to book annual leave
  • It’s sometimes a really nice way to announce your upcoming nuptials
  • Save The Dates share really important information nice and succinctly
  • It sets a tone for your big day very early on and can inform the design of the invitations

The Cons of Save The Dates

  • It’s an added cost – who knew stamps were so expensive!?
  • You risk sending a Save The Date to someone that you may fall out of touch with before the wedding day

Marie Allure’s Top Tips for Save The Dates

  • Giving people advance notice is admirable, so I’d recommend sending them
  • Only send your Save The Date cards to your absolute nearest and dearest, the ones you couldn’t be without
  • Have a think about the theme/style of your big day and try to begin incorporating it into your Save The Date and carry this through your entire stationery suite

What should I include on my Save The Date cards?

There are three things that must be shared on your Save The Date stationery;

  1. Bride & Groom names
  2. The date – this is an important one!
  3. And, location

The rest is completely up to you! But, here are some of my favourites…
